Teen magician to perform at White House

He will be among entertainers at Easter Egg Roll

Chad Juros, who used magic to buoy his spirits while fighting leukemia, takes his magic show on the road by performing at school assemblies, birthday parties and community festivals.He'll make a special stop today - the White House.Juros, 15, will be among the entertainment at this year's Easter Egg Roll. The annual event, which dates to 1878, requires contestants to push their eggs down lanes to the finish line.An estimated 15,000 are expected to attend the event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the South Lawn, said Allen Abney, a White House spokesman.Juros, known as The Magical Chadakazam, will be joined by such acts as American Girl Theater and Silly Socks Puppet Theater.Juros was invited to perform after meeting first lady Laura Bush in September at a National Childhood Cancer Foundation event in Washington."It feels totally unbelievable," he said. "I feel very honored."Juros' mother, Penny, was raised in Pennsauken. His late father, Don, grew up in Willingboro.

Juros, who was 3 when he was diagnosed with leukemia in 1991, spent 17 months in a hospital cancer ward beginning in 1995. During that time, he was hooked up to tubes that maintained his breathing and fed him.He once suffered cardiac arrest and fell into a coma.Juros' father taught him magic to distract him from the pain associated with his illness. He spent hours perfecting tricks while lying in his hospital bed.Now Juros, who is considered cured, having gone without chemotherapy for five years, is living out his dad's dying wish - that he get cured and share his magic with others."He is my inspiration," Penny Juros said. "He's living proof that you live life to the fullest. You never know what tomorrow can bring."
