EHT teen’s White House performance is pure magic

By MARTIN DeANGELIS Staff Writer, (609) 272-7237

Chad Juros will turn Easter into magic again today.

The 16-year-old is scheduled to do his magic act at the White House Easter Egg Roll this morning, the second year in a row he's been a featured performer at the annual event on the lawn of the most famous home in Washington, D.C. - and the rest of the United States, come to think of it.

Penny Juros, Chad's mother, said White House officials asked Chad - who works as The Magical Chadakazam - to show up at 6:30 a.m., even though the official event doesn't start until 8. They told her they want him to be available for media interviews on morning shows that they expect to get national coverage, she said.

Although the traditional Easter Egg Roll drew about 15,000 people last year, Chad didn't perform for everyone there. This year, his mother says he's scheduled to do two stage shows and one session of "strolling magic," or walking around and doing his act for crowds he attracts.

Chad is a junior at Egg Harbor Township High School and a survivor of years of cancer treatments. He learned magic from his father, Don, who died of brain cancer.

His mother says that in the year since his last gig at the White House, Chad has played the young David Copperfield in a TV movie - alas, it was for Japanese TV, with his voice dubbed into that language - and performed for several bigger crowds than he did at the Easter Egg Roll. After Washington, she says his next performance will be this week on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

His schedule, and information about a charitable foundation he has started to help young cancer patients and their families, the Spread The Magic Foundation, is available on his Web site.
